At The Refinery Barbershop, we are not only a barbershop specializing in amazing fades, buzzcuts, and regular haircuts, but we have also created a special space, called the sensory room, for our Mellow Monday Cuts from 9:00 to 12:00 on the last Monday of each month. This has been thoughtfully designed to cater to children with special needs, neurodivergent adults, and their families, offering a calm safe, and supportive environment tailored to their unique needs.
We begin every appointment with a conversation—listening carefully to parents, caregivers, or clients themselves. We write down the likes and dislikes of each child. This allows us to adapt our approach to meet each individual’s comfort level, whether providing minimal interaction, offering gentle encouragement, knowing their favorite soothing toy, or favorite video, and engaging creatively to make the haircutting experience enjoyable.
This is more than just a haircut, it’s about cultivating trust, building confidence, and transforming what could feel like a challenging task into a rewarding experience. At The Refinery Barbershop, we take pride in being advocates for a community that is often over looked, ensuring everyone who visits leaves feeling understood and valued.
